OPEN THE COMMUNICATION CHANNEL AGAIN
Because emotions run high, because things seem to be at a dead-end or have reached a point of no return, mediation might be an appropriate approach to the situation at-hand.
When to Use a Mediator?
- Volatile situations between 2 members of your staff or members of the same team
- Conflicts between employees and employers, between clients and vendors
- Threats of resignation or harassment complaints
- Dispute around transfer, promotion or lay off terms & conditions
About Mediation
The process of mediation is similar to a negotiation, but a negotiation assisted by a mediator. The latter will create favorable conditions and a safe environment to help the exchange of information and the resolution of the current situation. Mediation can resolve a dispute, restore and improve working relationships, and save time and money.
The Role of a Mediator
Mediators do not solve the problem. They are not a judge or a referee, nor do they provide advice to the parties; rather they support the resolution of the parties' issues by managing their communication and providing a context for their discussion.
They act as catalysis to the negotiation between the parties. They are not so much neutral as they are omni-partial, i.e. on both parties' sides at the same time.
