Here is some information for those who would like to find
out more about France or enjoy something French while in Vancouver,
or are maybe thinking about a trip over there.
Let’s Meet the French
One interesting thing about traveling and living abroad is
finding out what perception of the French, people of the country
or continent you are visiting or live in might have. Here
are a few interesting books about traveling or living in France,
as seen by Americans and English visitors. I must confess
that I have never personally experienced some of the situations
described by the authors while in France but in a country
of over 60 million people, things can happen and it is certainly
worth the read!
- Paris to the Moon by Adam Gopnik
- Sixty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong by J.B. Nadeau and J. Barlow
- Culture Shock!

and Etiquette - by Sally Adamson Taylor
- A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle

French Cuisine in Vancouver
There is a say in French that goes something like “there
is a crêperie owned and managed by people from Brittany,
France, in whatever port you find yourself, anywhere in the
world”. That is certainly true of Vancouver: you can
have delicious “crêpes de Bretagne” in 2
or 3 different places in the city.
More French restaurants are listed in the paper and on-line
directories of the SDE and of the Federation
of Francophones in British-Columbia and on the Maison
de la Francophonie’s web site.
